I am taking this boot camp course for my book proposal from this ultra cool chick Jen Scincero. She is quite brilliant and I am thoroughly enjoying working alongside her. However today as we were brainstorming and going over market analysis i got my first glimpse into my life , if you will. You know sometimes we think we know ourselves then something comes along to spark such a passion that sitting still is difficult. well this is me. I was investigating my books market comparable, when I realized I didn't like what I was seeing. I mean has everyone really forgotten what it was like to be a kid? Why do we act as though we've ALWAYS been adults and parenting is so foreign? Did we forget what we felt like? What we needed? And how much it hurt when adults told us we didn't understand because we were kid's? As though some how being a kid made you stupid.
Being a kid just makes you inexperienced. If you had never skied before would you expect yourself to grasp every aspect of skiing the first time? No. However if someone were to tell you "oh, you're just a newbie. You wouldn't understand" patted you on your head and moved along. What would you do? How would you feel? Ugh.... Maybe this makes sense maybe it doesn't it is just beginning to stir my blood to how condescending and patronizing we tend to be to our kid's. Then we wonder "why" there are so many troubles with teens...well, how would you react? How would I? We need to wake up and remember kid's are not for our molding they are for us to guide. It is for us to help them navigate their way through this thing called life. After all they are our future.
